About
Technical specialist in open education resources — hardware, software, and everything in between.
Background
Jim Tittsler
Jim Tittsler has an extensive technical background in both hardware and software design, applied over two decades to the specific challenges of open education. He led the design team involved with the award-winning eXe authoring package — a landmark tool that helped educators worldwide create and share structured learning content without needing to write code.
From there, his work expanded to developing extensions and widgets that simplify collaborative OER production, enabling teams to work together more efficiently on complex educational materials.
Authoring & production tools
Deep familiarity with the OER authoring ecosystem — from desktop tools like eXe to web-based platforms, and the metadata schemas and packaging formats (IMS, SCORM, xAPI, HTML5) that make resources portable and reusable.
Deployment & formats
Jim has helped groups deploy open education resources in diverse formats, both in traditional learning management systems (LMS) and more barrier-free platforms like WordPress.
Consulting & strategy
Whether an organisation is building its first OER repository or rethinking an established programme, Jim brings structured thinking to the full lifecycle: licensing strategy, workflow design, quality assurance, and long-term sustainability.
Co-operative
OER.me operates as a co-operative — a structure that reflects the values of the open education movement itself: shared ownership, mutual benefit, and a commitment to the commons. Engagements are collaborative by design, and outcomes belong to the communities they serve.
